India registered a six-wicket win over the Prime Minister’s XI in the warm-up match at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Chasing a target of 241, Yashasvi Jaiswal (45), Shubman Gill (50*), Nitish Kumar Reddy (42), and Washington Sundar (42*) batted superbly to close the game in their team’s favor.
Rohit Sharma played his first game after a long time, as he was in India for the birth of his second child. He managed just three runs while batting at the No.4 slot. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal were given a chance to open the innings.
Sarfaraz Khan, who is under the scanner for his failures in the previous Test series against New Zealand, was once again below par. His dismissal (1 run) forced Rohit to cover his face.
The commentator was left clueless to see Rohit’s reaction. “Is Rohit Sharma crying or laughing? I feel he is laughing,” he said.
Sarfaraz is unlikely to play any game in the series unless someone is ruled out due to an injury. He has fallen behind, with the management preferring Devdutt Padikkal, Rahul, and Dhruv Jurel over him.
Although India won the first Test by 295 runs, they will have to win three more games to make it to the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). The day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval is crucial to the Indian team’s chances as they were bowled out for 36 runs in the second innings in their previous pink-ball Test in Australia.
