Delhi: England created a new record in Test cricket history by chasing the target of 104 runs in the first Test against New Zealand at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Sunday. England achieved this target in just 12.4 overs, which is the fastest ever in a successful run-chase of more than 100 runs.

England achieved this target with a run rate of 8.21, which is the highest ever run rate by any team in a run-chase of 100 or more.

Earlier, this record was in the name of West Indies, who had scored 172 runs at a run rate of 6.82 against India in 1983.

Chasing a target of 104, England lost early wickets, but brilliant innings from Ben Duckett (27 off 18 balls), Jacob Bethell (50 not out from 37 balls), and Joe Root (23 not out from 15 balls) Made the team win.

Earlier, New Zealand had scored 348 runs in the first innings with the help of Kane Williamson (93) and Glenn Phillips (58).

England's Brydon Carse recorded figures of 4/64 and Shoaib Bashir recorded figures of 4/69. In reply, England scored 499 runs with brilliant innings by Harry Brook (171), Ollie Pope (77), and Ben Stokes (80).

Second Test in Wellington from 6th December

New Zealand was reduced to 254 runs in the second innings. Carse won the title of 'Player of the Match' by taking a total of 10 wickets. England has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The second Test will be played in Wellington from 6 December.
