KKR bought the most expensive player for Rs 23.75 crore. He spent this amount on Venkatesh Iyer. After spending such a huge amount, it seemed that he would also be made the team captain of Kolkata Knight Riders. Venkatesh Iyer himself had expressed his intention to become captain in the interview given after receiving the money. But, now different news is coming. There is news that KKR is thinking of making him its captain, not Venkatesh Iyer, but the person whom he bought by paying a lesser amount of Rs 22.25 crore. KKR is looking towards Ajinkya Rahane as the new captain.

KKR bought Rahane for 1.5 crores

Kolkata Knight Riders bought Ajinkya Rahane at his base price, which was Rs 1.5 crore. Rahane was earlier a part of CSK, where he was not retained. Rahane also has the experience of captaining Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Rising Pune Supergiants and CSK in IPL. In such a situation, if KKR is planning to give him captaincy, then obviously his experience will be useful to them.

90 percent confirmed…Rahane can become captain

Times of India quoted sources and wrote that at present it is 90 percent confirmed that Ajinkya Rahane can be the new captain of KKR. KKR bought him specifically for that reason. However, this is yet to be officially approved.

This will be Ajinkya Rahane's second term with 3-time IPL champion KKR. Earlier, he was a part of this franchise in IPL 2022, where he scored 133 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 103.91.

Rahane became a part of CSK in IPL 2023, where he scored 326 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 172.49. This year CSK also won the IPL title for the record 5th time. IPL 2024 did not go well for Rahane, where he scored only 242 runs for CSK at a strike rate of 123.47. This year the team could not even qualify for the playoffs.
