Pakistan want a hybrid model for the ICC tournaments scheduled in India until 2031. The PCB is ready to accept a new formula for the Champions Trophy but with two conditions. They want an increase in their revenue from the apex body of international cricket and also their matches in a different country if India is the host nation of any global tournament.
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh reacted to the ongoing tussle between the two countries for the Champions Trophy and opined on PCB’s threat of not competing in India.
“If Pakistan don’t want to come to India, don’t come. It is your thinking that if you are not going to travel to India, it will impact the tournaments in the country. It is your choice, but remember India also have similar options. If you look at their current situation and ask any player, he will say the same thing. They will be a very amazing host if the situation improves.
“I have been to Pakistan twice with the Indian team and we enjoyed a lot. When we visited market, the shopkeepers didn’t charge us. We were gifted shawls. They are a good host but the situation is not right. It is in their hands to improve the situation. If it improves, every team would want to play in Pakistan,” Harbhajan Singh told Sports Tak.
“Champions Trophy shouldn’t be stopped because of egos. Let it happen in a hybrid model and people wants to see cricket. There are hardly a few matches between India and Pakistan. If you try to create a mess this will also stop,” he added.
India last played in Pakistan during the 2008 Asia Cup, while the Men in Green visited India for a bilateral series in 2012-13.
