Till a few years ago, it was said that in a five-day Test match, from the third day onwards one could largely guess which way the match was going. At that time test matches used to last for five days. Now there are only a few test matches which see the shape of the fifth day. Otherwise most of the test matches are ending in 3 to 4 days. Now the same formula is applied to the five test match series also. It seemed that the third Test match would decide the course of the series, but after the victory of the Indian team in Perth, the story has completely changed. Now the math is quite straightforward. If Australia wins in Adelaide, the excitement of the series will increase, but if the Indian team pushes the Kangaroos to defeat in Adelaide like Perth, then Australia will be in disgrace.
India has been in possession of the Border Gavaskar Trophy for the last decade. Now if the Indian team wins the first two out of five test matches, then it can be said that it will definitely win one in the next three test matches. Cricket fans are not able to accept the fact that even after losing two matches, Australia should not be considered weak and it can win the next three Test matches consecutively. Anything can happen in the world of sports, but the current form clearly shows that if the Indian team wins in Adelaide, then it will once again capture the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
It is not going to be easy for the Indian team to win in Adelaide. This test match will be played with pink ball. The Australian team has more experience in playing pink ball test matches. Apart from this, Australia has won 11 of the 12 pink ball tests played so far. India also won 3 out of 4 pink ball tests. But that only defeat is against Australia. That means overall the circumstances are opposite. Yes, it can also be seen that the relevant circumstances were there in the Perth Test match also.
Remember, captain Rohit Sharma was not playing, Shubmag Gill was out due to injury. There was a search even for the opening pair. The entire team was bundled out for 150 runs in the first innings. But after this, India made a comeback in the Test match on the basis of strong determination. First Australia were bundled out for 104 runs and then added close to 500 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul made a record partnership of 201 runs. India won the test match by 295 runs. Even before this, it has been seen that whenever the Indian team got stuck in the hands of circumstances in Australia, the players acted with courage. You easily remember the examples of players like Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar or R Ashwin.
So, it is true that even in Adelaide, the conditions are largely in favor of the host team, but the Indian team also knows how to change the direction of the wind. The players of the Indian team understand very well that scoring runs against Australia is more important than scoring runs against any other team in the world. The defeat against Australia hurts now. This is also because at present India and Australia are among the biggest powers of cricket in every format.
To change the direction of the wind, the Indian team has also made a big change. Rohit Sharma will bat in the middle order in the Adelaide Test match. Before the match, he removed the curtain from this suspense in the press conference. He told that he was also watching KL Rahul's batting in the first test match with his newborn son. He praised KL Rahul a lot. In such a situation, captain Rohit Sharma handed over the opening which he had been holding for the last five years to KL Rahul. Now Rohit Sharma will play in the middle order in the Adelaide Test.
One more thing needs to be noted here. Rohit Sharma's form was not good in the last series against New Zealand. He scored a total of 91 runs in 3 test matches. In one of these matches he had scored 52 runs. He did not even reach double figures in three innings. He was dismissed four times in 6 innings by fast bowlers like Tin Saudi and Matt Henry. That means he had already returned to the pavilion before he could bat against spin. He may also benefit from his coming to the middle order.
Rohit also said in the press conference before the match that now the players of this team do not care about their runs or centuries but now everyone plays for the victory of the team. Before the start of this series, the equation of the World Test Championship was such that India had to win 4 out of five Test matches. But let us assume that apart from this series, there will be some upheaval in about a dozen test matches which are to be played across the world. According to an assessment, if the Indian team wins the Border Gavaskar Trophy, then its claim for a place in the final of the World Test Championship will become stronger. That is why Adelaide Test is no longer just a test match of this series but has become a decisive match.
