Kangaroo players paid tribute to late Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes. A minute's silence was also observed in Hughes' honor. During the Pink Ball Test, Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said about the late player, 'We understand that this will be a time of reflection for many people who knew and admired Phillip Hughes.' He added, 'We wanted to make sure that Hughes' family, in particular, was comfortable with any commemoration and that we appropriately celebrate Philip's life and incredible achievements.'
Hughes played 26 tests for Australia. During a first class match in 2014, he was hit by a bouncer from Sean Abbott which proved fatal. He died on 27 November 2014 at the age of 25.
