Team India's star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is creating new records with every match with his speed and edge, and is doing something special. After playing an important role in Team India winning the T20 World Cup, Bumrah has made a great start on the Australia tour. Bumrah, who was the hero of the memorable victory while captaining Team India in the Perth Test, now gave the first success to Team India in the Adelaide Test and along with it also achieved a special status. Bumrah completed his 50 wickets in Test cricket this year and he achieved this special achievement on his birthday.
The day-night test match between India and Australia started in Adelaide on Friday 6 December. Team India won the toss in this match also and decided to bat first, as it did in the Perth Test. Then the same situation happened, which happened in the first innings of Perth Test. Australia's fast bowlers made Team India the stars of the day with the pink ball and bundled out the entire team for 180 runs. Nitish Kumar Reddy once again scored 42 runs for the Indian team. Whereas Australia's legendary pacer Mitchell Starc took the maximum of 6 wickets.
After Team India's early dismissal in the Perth Test, Australia also lost wickets in the beginning and Bumrah was the reason for this. In such a situation, here too Bumrah was expected to do something similar and the Indian pacer did not disappoint. After a short wait, Bumrah gave the first success to Team India by dismissing Australian opener Usman Khawaja in the 11th over of the innings. Khawaja returned to the pavilion after scoring only 13 runs. With this, Bumrah completed a special half-century for the first time in his career, that too on his 31st birthday.
Actually this was Bumrah's 50th Test wicket this year. With this, he became only the third fast bowler of India to take 50 Test wickets in a year. Bumrah completed 50 wickets in 21 innings of 11 Tests in 2024. This is the first time when he took 50 Test wickets in a year. Before him, only two Indian fast bowlers had crossed the 50 mark. Kapil Dev had taken 74 wickets in 1979 and 75 wickets in 1983. Whereas Zaheer Khan had taken 51 wickets in 2002. In this way, after 22 years, an Indian pacer has done this. This achievement of Bumrah is also special because earlier on 16 occasions whenever an Indian bowler took more than 50 wickets, Bumrah's average of 15.14 is the best.
