David Warner said that Glenn Maxwell doesn’t deserve to play Test cricket for Australia and slammed the all-rounder for his ambitions to play red-ball cricket. Maxwell plays white-ball cricket but the veteran wants to be a part of the Test squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. However, Warner mentioned that Maxwell doesn’t have enough preparations under his belt to play the longest format.
Maxwell, 36, has enjoyed success in the sub-continent and is hopeful of getting a chance, considering his performances in this part of the world.
“I want to be a part of the tour and my tactics will be the same as I have played in red-ball cricket in the past. I am going to back my sterngth and will have a good defence and back scoring shots.”
However, Maxwell’s Test ambitions have been questioned by Warner.
“If you don’t play for your Shield team, then you don’t deserve to play Test cricket. You have to actually want it to play four-day cricket,” David Warner said.
“He until plays club cricket and puts his hands up, I don’t think he deserves to play Test cricket,” he added.
Maxwell hasn’t played red-ball cricket in Australia and made just one appearance this season for Victoria’s 2nd XI, scoring 24 runs in two innings.
“You have to work hard in the domestic cricket to play Test cricket for Australia. You can’t keep saying without working hard.”
