Rohit Sharma got happiness, Virat Kohli got sadness, different emotions were seen in one day.

The two biggest stars of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, have seen many ups and downs in their decade and a half long career. Many days have been good for both, many have been bad. Then there have been some days or dates which proved to be good for one of the two and disappointing for the other.

One such day is 13th December, which proved to be wonderful for Rohit Sharma but brought sorrow for Virat Kohli. The only difference is that Rohit got good results for his amazing batting, whereas even Virat's strong batting could not take him to the result for which he had put in all his efforts.

Rohit's record third double century

Let's talk about Rohit Sharma first. The current captain of Team India, Rohit may be struggling for runs and failing to play big innings, but everyone knows about his ability. Once he gets set, he often scores big scores with his bat.

One such score came on 13 December 2017, when Rohit further improved his already made world record. Exactly 7 years ago, Rohit had scored his third double century in ODI cricket in the field of Mohali.

Rohit had already scored two double centuries, which was a world record in itself. One of them was an inning of 264 runs, which seems almost impossible to surpass. That innings came against Sri Lanka and in 2017 too, Rohit targeted Sri Lanka. The difference was that even in Mohali, Rohit was commanding Team India like today. In that match, the star opener played an unbeaten inning of 208 runs in just 153 balls, which included 13 fours and 12 sixes.

Apart from him, Shikhar Dhawan scored 68 runs and Shreyas Iyer scored 88 runs. Team India won the match by a huge margin of 141 runs by scoring 392 runs.

Virat's century but first defeat under captaincy

Rohit had led the team to victory by playing brilliant innings under his captaincy, but the day of 13th December could not bring such happiness for Virat. Four years before Mohali's feat, on 13 December 2013, Virat Kohli was from Australia and like now, was busy in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The ground was Adelaide and it was the last day of the test match.

In response to the target of 364 runs set by Australia, Virat Kohli played a surprising century. As long as he was at the crease with Murali Vijay, Team India was moving towards a historic victory.

Murali missed a century but like the first innings, Virat scored a remarkable century in the second innings of the match as well. But as soon as he was out on the score of 304, Team India's entire innings collapsed at just 315 runs and the Indian team lost the match by 48 runs. Virat scored 141 runs but could not help the team win. This defeat was even more painful for Virat because it was his first match as captain in Test cricket.

Incidentally, after this defeat, Virat Kohli became India's most successful Test captain and the first Asian captain to win a Test series in Australia.
