India's young Grandmaster D Gukesh had defeated the World Chess Championship held in Singapore a day earlier i.e. on Thursday 12th December in the final. 18 year old Gukesh became the youngest world champion by defeating Ding Liren of China. But now his historic victory is being accused of fixing. Russian Chess Federation President Andrey Filatev has accused Liren of deliberately losing the final match. He has also demanded an investigation into this from the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

Accusation of losing intentionally

Information about Russia's objection and demand for investigation has been given by Ukrainian chess coach Peter Hein Nielsen quoting the Russian news agency.

The agency quoted Filatev as saying that 'Professionals and chess fans are not satisfied with the result of the final match of the World Chess Championship. In the final match against Gukesh, during the result round, the Chinese player made some moves which raise doubts. FIDE should change this separately. In the situation Ding Liren was in, it is difficult for even a first class player to lose. It seems that the Chinese player lost the game deliberately and this raises a lot of questions.

Won in the last round

Ding Liren of China had won the World Chess Championship title last year. This year he had entered with the intention of achieving it again as the defending champion.

He was having a tough competition with D Gukesh of India for the last several days in Singapore. In the 13-round match, both the players were tied with 2 wins each, while 9 matches were drawn. The 14th and last round of the championship took place on Thursday 12 December. In this decisive match, 18 year old Gukesh defeated the Chinese Grandmaster and won the title by a margin of 7.56.5.
