Shubman Gill has responded to Pat Cummins’ bouncer warning to Team India ahead of the third Test in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He refused to give importance to Cummins’ threat of using a bouncer barrage to unsettle the Indian batters at the Gabba. Gill also took a dig at the Aussie skipper.
“Apart from one top order wicket, he has only dismissed tailenders with bouncers. I don’t know what type of short-ball plans he wants to deploy against us,” Gill told the reporters.
Cummins had said that bouncers worked against the rivals in the pink-ball Test and Australia would use it at some point of time at the Gabba. “It is always there at the back of our minds. It is Plan B when other things don’t work but for some of the batters we use it as Plan A,” Cummins said.
Cummins had executed his bouncers to perfection in Adelaide, taking five wickets in India’s second innings. The visiting team was bowled out for 175 runs and lost the contest by 10 wickets. Mitchell Starc dismissed six batters in the first essay to restrict India to 180.
Gill missed the series opener due to a finger injury and was replaced by Devdutt Padikkal. The sub-continent won the contest by 295 runs at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
