This sensational case has come to light on the second day of the first season of Sri Lankan Cricket's newest tournament, Lanka T10 League, in which Galle Marvels franchise owner Prem Thakur was arrested by the Sports Police Unit of Sri Lanka. A foreign player had complained against Prem Thakur, after which this action took place.
According to the report of ESPN-Cricinfo, this new league started from Wednesday 11th December and 3 matches were played on the very first day. In this, Galle Marvels also won their first match. Thursday, December 12, was the second day of the tournament and the Gaul team had to take the field again. But the former team owner, Prem Thakur, was arrested by the Sports Police Unit of Sri Lanka. The news of this arrest came even before the team took the field. Although the match could not be played due to rain, this matter created a sensation.
It has been told in the report that Prem Thakur was arrested from a hotel in Kandy. The matches of this league are being played in this city. The arrested Prem Thakur is an Indian citizen. According to the information, a foreign player had complained about match fixing after receiving an offer from Prem Thakur. Sri Lanka Cricket appointed an official from the ICC's anti-corruption unit for the tournament.
This complaint went to this officer, after which Thakur was arrested. He has been arrested under a law made in 2019, which was made to prevent crimes in sports. After being arrested, the Sri Lankan police presented Prem Thakur in a court on Friday, 13 December, from where he was sent to police custody till 16 December. While this news has created an outcry, the tournament director has made it clear that the league will continue as per its schedule.
