Arshdeep Singh, who took the highest wickets for India at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, credited Rishabh Pant for the Men in Blue’s win over South Africa in the final. Arshdeep spoke about Pant’s brilliance that turned the game in the team’s favor during the death overs. Arshdeep, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya were brilliant with the ball as India ended the 11-year ICC trophy drought.
“I am thankful for the support and love of the fans. When South Africa needed 30 runs, there was a break due to Rishabh Pant’s treatment. I thought it was a tactical move and could change the flow of the game. We were not aware whether Pant was really injured or not.
“But after that, Hardik bhai took a wicket and then Jassi Bhai created pressure, we start believing that we could win the contest. We executed our plans and got the results we wanted,” Arshdeep Singh said on Aaj Tak.
Virat Kohli’s half-century took the total to 176 for 7 in 20 overs. South Africa were in complete control when Heinrich Klaasen was blazing all guns.
This is when Pant faked an injury, and the physio came out to the ground in no time. It was enough to break Klaasen’s momentum. He was on 52 off 27 at that time.
Hardik Pandya dismissed Heinrich and then Bumrah and Arshdeep didn’t concede too many runs. In the final over of the innings, Pandya successfully took David Miller’s wicket and the Proteas lost the match.
Rohit Sharma revealed that Pant was not injured and was doing a drama to stop Klaasen’s assault.
