Australia's legendary batsman Steve Smith, who has been struggling with poor form and criticism, has finally spoken. Due to the failure of Perth and Adelaide Test, the questions being raised on Smith's career got answered in the Brisbane Test. Australia's legendary batsman played an excellent innings in difficult conditions at Gabba and finally ended the wait for his century. This is the 33rd century of Smith's Test career and his 10th overall against India.
The first day of the Test match at Gabba was washed away by rain and only 13 overs were played. On the second day of the match, on Sunday 15th December, Jasprit Bumrah had put Australia in trouble by dismissing both the openers. Steve Smith came to the crease after the fall of two wickets for only 38 runs. He along with Marnus Labuschagne managed the innings for some time but Labuschagne too did not last long. In such a situation, the onus was on Smith.
Smith fulfilled this responsibility well. Along with Travis Head, he handled the innings and then strengthened it. Head was attacking in his own style but Smith extended his innings by playing cautiously. His half-century was completed in only 128 balls. But once fifty was scored and his eyes were frozen, after that Smith took full notice of the Indian bowlers. This can be gauged from his century. After the half-century, he scored the next 50 runs in just 57 balls. In this way Smith scored the 33rd century of his career in 185 balls. In this way, for the first time after June 29, 2023, he crossed the hundred mark in Test.
Smith, however, could not take his innings much further and after the arrival of the new ball, he was out on the ball of Jasprit Bumrah. Nevertheless, Smith also did some special wonders with this century. He has scored his 10th Test century against India, out of which the 9th century came in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In this matter he has equaled Virat Kohli. Apart from this, he came second in terms of most Test centuries from Australia. He left behind Steve Waugh (32) and now only Ricky Ponting (41) is ahead of him.
Whereas Travis Head has maintained his excellent form against India. After Adelaide, Travis Head also scored a century in Brisbane. In this way, this is his third century in 4 Test matches against India in the last one and a half year. Along with Smith, he made an excellent partnership of 241 runs for the fourth wicket.
