Jasprit Bumrah is fighting a lone batte for India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He completed his second five-fer of the five-match Test series with Travis Head’s wicket in Australia’s first innings of the third game at the Gabba.
Bumrah started the day with Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney’s scalps in the first session to put the visitors ahead. However, a big hundred by Travis Head and a three-digit mark of Steve Smith put Australia in a strong position.
While Smith was dismissed after scoring 101 runs, Head accumulated 152. With bowlers struggling to take wickets, Rohit didn’t waste time to take a new ball when it was available. The change of red cherry gave Bumrah an edge over the Aussies as he picked up the wickets of Mitchell Marsh and Head in one over.
Usman (21), McSweeney (9), Smith, Marsh (5) and Head were sent back by the speedster, who has taken 17 wickets so far in the series. In the first Test in Perth, he took 6 wickets in Australia’s first innings, with the hosts posting just 104 runs in reply to India’s 150. Jasprit added two scalps to his bowling figures in the fourth innings of the match as India won the contest by 295 runs.
The pink-ball Test saw him dismissing four batters but Australia registered a 10-wicket victory.
