Jasprit Bumrah has been the only Indian bowler who has put Australia in trouble in the ongoing third Test at the Gabba. He took a five-fer in the first innings, with the hosts crossing the 400-run mark on Day 2 of the contest. Australia were 28/0 in 13.2 overs when the play was called off due to rain on the first day.
However, sensational hitting by Travis Head and Steve Smith’s calculated risk took the total to 405/7. Head scored 152 off 160, laced with 18 fours, while Smith amassed 101 off 190, including 12 boundaries. Bumrah dismissed both batters. The right-arm seamer also took the scalps of Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney, and Mitchell Marsh.
“He is a world-class bowler. Even a batter who has scored 150 can’t feel safe in front of him. He bowled a peach of a delivery to Head. The problem is that he is not getting support from the other end. When he took two wickets in the morning, none of the other bowlers were able to create pressure, which allowed Head to go for runs. Smith was also not targeted.
“Everyone knows about the areas that give discomfort to Head but he again hit another century because the bowlers allowed him to free his arms,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
Bumrah has taken 17 wickets so far in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
