Jay Shah took over as ICC chairman earlier this month. After this the post of Secretary in BCCI became vacant. In such a situation, BCCI President Roger Binny appointed Devjit Saikia as the acting secretary of the board. Now after Secretary, another post of BCCI may soon be filled by a player, a big reason behind this has also come to light. If this happens then another big change will be seen in the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
In fact, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ashish Shelar was sworn in as a cabinet minister in the Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra government on Sunday. In such a situation, now the post of Treasurer in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is certain to become vacant. Let us tell you, Shelar, who will take over as BCCI Treasurer in October 2022, took oath as one of the cabinet ministers in Nagpur after winning the Vandre West seat in the Maharashtra Assembly elections last month.
Let us tell you, in 2016, the Supreme Court, while implementing the recommendations of the Lodha Committee, had ruled that no minister or public servant can become a member of the BCCI. But the apex court had allowed BCCI to amend its constitution in September 2022, paving the way for MLAs to become officials in the board. After this, Shelar became the treasurer of BCCI in October the same year. In such a situation, Ashish Shelar can also continue on the post of Treasurer.
Before being the treasurer in BCCI, Ashish Shelar was elected as the Vice President of Mumbai Cricket Association on 17 June 2015. After this, he was elected President of Mumbai Cricket Association on 12 January 2017. Let us tell you, Ashish has experience of working in the BCCI Board and he has also been watching the work of the Board very closely.
