The end seems near now. This might be the last chance. Maybe the last 4-5 innings. The departure of two of the biggest batsmen of Indian cricket in the last decade now seems closer than ever. The captain of one team is Rohit Sharma and the other is former captain Virat Kohli. Both their bats have been silent in Test cricket for some time and this silence continues on the Australia tour as well. This is the series which was already considered to be 'do or die' for them and the situation seen so far shows that the time for both of them is probably over.
But what are the alternatives that the selectors can consider to replace them? After the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Team India will play the next Test directly in June 2025, whether it is the final of the World Test Championship or the Test series against England. If the selectors decide to drop Virat and Rohit after this tour, then who can be given a chance on the England tour? There are definitely some options for this.
Team India already has some faces who have played some matches. The names of Shreyas Iyer and Sarfaraz Khan are at the top. Even though Iyer is currently out of Team India, the chances of his comeback are very strong. Apart from them, Sarfaraz may not have got a chance in this series, but considering the kind of start his career has had, it is certain that he will become a regular part of Team India in future also. Apart from these two, there is also Dhruv Jurel, who may have failed in the Perth Test but like Sarfaraz, he has also shown his strength in a short time.
Apart from these three, there are some players who can be considered and can remain a part of the team for a long time. In this, the name of young left-handed batsman Sai Sudarshan appears at the top. This Tamil Nadu batsman had recently played an excellent century for India A against Australia A. Apart from this, he also showed his talent in the Ranji Trophy season. He also played some good innings for Surrey in the County Championship of England this year. This 23-year-old batsman has scored 1948 runs in 28 first class matches at an average of 41.
Like Sudarshan, Tilak Verma is another young left-handed batsman. This middle order batsman, who plays for Hyderabad, has had a good start to his first class career and has scored 1204 runs in 18 matches at an average of 50. Tilak has already made a name for himself with his explosive batting in T20 International and now looks like a contender in red ball cricket as well. However, he will face challenge from batsmen like Shreyas Iyer and Sarfaraz.
Apart from these, there are also two senior first class batsmen, who may get a chance considering their experience in red ball cricket. One of them is Maharashtra batsman Rituraj Gaikwad, who has scored 2533 runs in 37 first class matches at an average of 41.52. Although the Australia tour was not good for him, his ability is not hidden from anyone.
The other batsman is Rajat Patidar of Madhya Pradesh, who is currently in explosive form in white ball cricket but is an equally good batsman in the longer format as well. He has scored 4636 runs in 66 matches at an average of 43. Although Patidar made his Test debut against England this year and also played 3 matches, in which he could score only 63 runs, but like Gaikwad, his ability is also not hidden from anyone and maybe if he gets a second chance, he can capitalize on it. .
