Cricket fans are constantly worried and raising questions about the fitness of Team India's star fast bowler Mohammed Shami. Updates are also being taken from captain Rohit Sharma every time regarding his fitness. Now finally the Board of Control for Cricket in India has released the update on Shami's current condition for the first time and the things told by BCCI are going to increase the concerns of Team India and Shami's fans. Shami's return to Team India seems difficult at the moment and his chances of playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy also seem slim.
The Indian Cricket Board gave a detailed update on Shami's fitness on Monday 23 December and informed that Shami was not selected for the last two Tests on the Australia tour. BCCI said that Shami, who was suffering from a heel injury, was working on his fitness with the medical team at the Center of Excellence and had completely recovered from this injury. However, due to continuous bowling in the last few days, his knee started swelling, due to which the medical team did not consider him fit for the last two Test matches on the Australia tour.

BCCI said in its press release that after completely recovering from the heel injury, Shami had returned to the Ranji Trophy and bowled 43 overs. After this, Shami played all 9 matches for Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. The board also said that apart from these matches, Shami also bowled a lot at the Center of Excellence, so that he could be prepared for bowling in the Test matches. However, during this time, his left knee started swelling, which was due to excessive bowling workload. The board said that it was natural for this to happen due to increase in workload.
