Ravichandran Ashwin said that he thought of retiring a couple of times in the past but finally took the decision when he realised that his creative side doesn’t have a future.

“I don’t want people to celebrate me. I never believe in holding onto things. I have never been insecure in my life. I don’t believe what is mind today is going to stay with me tomorrow,” Ashwin said in an interaction with Sky Sports.

“I don’t like the attention we get at home. Game has always stood ahead of me. I have always given importance to creative side but now I felt that it doesn’t have a lot of upsides to explore,” he added.

Ashwin announced his retirement after the third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. He took 765 scalps across formats in a 14-year career.

“I have no regrets, and I am glad that the game found me and it gave me meaning in life.

“I’ve played Test cricket for long and it taught me how to live my life. It is the most beautiful thing that has happened for me.”
