India captain Rohit Sharma spoke to the journalists on Christmas Eve at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He shed light on Virat Kohli’s form and the performance of other batters. The veteran also opened up on his batting spot ahead of the fourth Test against Australia.
When asked if he had a word with out of form Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma said: “You say he is a modern-day great. Modern-day greats will figure out what needs to be done.”
The Indian captain extended his support to Kohli, who has been found wanting outside the off stump.
He scored a hundred in the second innings of the first Test but since then, the legendary cricketer has failed to get going against the Australian bowlers. In the three Tests so far, Kohli has posted 5, 100 not out, 7, 11, and 3. Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland have exploited his weaknesses outside the off stump.
Rohit Sharma is focusing on the basics to return to form in the Boxing Day Test.
Rohit has been batting at No. 6 having sacrificed the opening spot for KL Rahul, who has done well as an opener.
“We don’t need to discuss this in every press conference.
Let’s leave it to the team management. We will figure it out within the group,” he added.KL Rahul has amassed 235 runs, including two fifties. Rohit also addressed concerns regarding the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant. “We don’t want to complicate things for Pant, Jaiswal and Gill. They know about their roles. Our job is to converse with them about small, small things to motivate them.”
The series level at 1-1 and the remaining two Tests at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Sydney Cricket Ground will decide the outcome of the series.
