India vs Australia 4th Test: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah (jasprit bumrah MCG) created a stir with brilliant bowling in the second innings of the fourth Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Bumrah took 5 wickets for 57 runs in 24.4 overs in the second innings, making Sam Constas, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey and Nathan Lyon his victims. This is the third time in this series that he has taken 5 or more wickets in an innings.
In the current series, Bumrah has taken 30 wickets in four Tests at an average of 12.83. As an Indian bowler, he has come second in terms of taking most wickets in a Border Gavaskar Trophy series. He left Ravichandran Ashwin behind, who took 29 wickets in 2013. Harbhajan Singh is at number one with 32 wickets.
As an Indian fast bowler, Bumrah has reached the third position among the players who have taken the most international wickets in a year. This year, Bumrah has taken 86 wickets in all three formats combined. He went ahead of Irfan Pathan, who took 85 wickets in 2004. Kapil Dev is at first place with 100 wickets and Zaheer Khan is at second place with 89 wickets.
Bumrah finished the year 2024 with 71 wickets in Tests. He has become the second Indian bowler to have taken more than 70 wickets in a year in Tests. Kapil Dev took 74 wickets in Tests in 1979 and 75 wickets in 1983.
Bumrah has come joint second in the list of Indian players who have taken 5 wickets in an innings the most number of times in Australia. By achieving this feat for the fourth time, Bumrah equaled Anil Kumble.
