First the crushing defeat in the Test series against New Zealand at home and now the continuously deteriorating performance on the Australia tour. Team India is on everyone's radar with its performance on the field. With the defeat in the Melbourne Test, Team India has lagged behind in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and it seems very difficult for it to reach the final of the World Test Championship. On one hand, questions are being raised on the performance of most of the Indian players including captain Rohit Sharma, while now they have been termed as outright liars. This allegation against Team India has not been made by any foreigner, but by former Indian wicketkeeper Surinder Khanna.
Team India had to face defeat on the fifth and last day of the Melbourne Test. In response to the target of 240 runs set by Australia, Team India collapsed for just 155 runs and lost the match by a huge margin of 184 runs. Amidst the defeat of the Indian team, there was a big uproar regarding the decisions of the umpires. Indian veterans and fans raised questions on the third umpire's decision regarding the wicket of first Yashasvi Jaiswal and then Akash Deep.
In both the cases, no clear movement was seen in the sneakometer when the ball hit the bat, but still the third umpire gave him out. These decisions gave rise to a big controversy and a legend like Sunil Gavaskar even vented his anger on the third umpire. But apart from all this, former Indian cricketer Surinder Khanna called the Indian players liars. In an interview, Khanna called these controversies absurd. On Jaiswal's case, he said, "They showed from four angles that the ball had hit the gloves and its speed had also reduced while going to Alex Carey behind the wicket."
After this he talked about the wicket of Akash Deep and called everyone a liar and advised him to play clean cricket. He said, “When Akash Deep was caught out, he also complained. These people are liars. First you should play clean cricket and only then you will win. When you have the bat in your hand, how do you not know whether the ball has hit you or not? We played bad cricket and we lost. How was he batting?”
As far as the controversy regarding both the decisions is concerned, the truth is that Jaiswal and Akash were deep out. The third umpire's decision regarding both was correct. The ball was hit by Jaiswal's glove and changed its direction. Although it was not clearly visible on Sneoko, but in such cases the third umpire can take the decision as per his discretion. Similarly, when the ball passed near Akash Deep's bat, there was no movement on the sneekometer, but before the ball hit the pad, the sneekometer moved. Besides, there was also a red mark of the ball on the edge of the bat. In such a situation, the third umpire gave the decisions in favor of Australia.
