The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia has seen fierce competition between the two teams, with the hosts leading 2-1 after four games. The competitiveness has been of top level with players from both sets giving their best in the middle.
The Boxing Day Test went to the fifth day, and all the leading experts, including some legendary cricketers, hailed the two rivals for trying to register a win.
Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar was pleased with the intense rivalry between India and Australia and even mentioned the two arc-rivals India and Pakistan.
“The scoreline doesn’t give you a clear picture of what has happened in the middle. Although Australia are leading, India didn’t give them anything easily. It is the most intense and closely fought rivalry in the world of cricket at the moment.
“We talk about the India-Pakistan rivalry, but it has become a damp squib; you can’t say the same thing about India vs Australia matches.
“The contests between India and Australia are watched by everyone and it is a great advert for Test cricket,” he said.
India and Pakistan don’t play bilateral matches, and the two neighbouring countries also clash in ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup. India have been dominating Pakistan for ages, and the matches are mostly one-sided.
