The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will rest Jasprit Bumrah for the three-match ODI series against England. The star pacer has bowled a lot of overs in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. He will be given a breather ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and the UAE.
England will play five T20Is and three ODIs from 22 January to 12 February. Jasprit Bumrah has been Team India’s spearhead in the five-Test series against the Pat Cummins-led team Down Under.
He is leading the inexperienced bowling attack in Mohammed Shami’s absence. In four red-ball matches, he has bowled 141.2 overs, the highest by any bowler from India and Australia.
Bumrah will be in action during the fifth and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. India captain Rohit Sharma recently admitted that there is a risk of over-bowling Bumrah.
“He has bowled a lot of overs but we are monitoring his workload. When someone is in form, it becomes important for us to maximize it,” Rohit Sharma said.
“We both are having regular concentrations about his workload.
I am trying to manage him carefully,” he added.
