Team India lost 1-3 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Even after winning the first match of the series, Team India could not retain the trophy. But this series was very special for Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. He performed brilliantly in every match and also took the maximum number of wickets. But he did not get support from other players. Even though Team India lost this series, Bumrah got the biggest award of the series. That means he was elected Player of the Series for his memorable performance.
Jasprit Bumrah was the most successful bowler in this series. He took a total of 32 wickets in 5 matches. During this period his average was 13.06. In this series, Bumrah achieved the feat of taking 5 wickets in an innings thrice and also took 4 wickets each in an innings twice. Apart from Bumrah, no bowler could cross the mark of 25 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Pat Cummins was the second highest wicket taker in this series with 25 wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah also became the Indian bowler taking the most wickets in a Test series against Australia at home. He broke the 47 year old record of Bishan Singh Bedi. Bedi took 31 wickets in a Test series in Australia in the year 1977-78. At the same time, this was also the first time when an Indian bowler took so many wickets in a Test wicket outside his home. With this, Jasprit Bumrah also equaled the Indian record for taking most wickets in a Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
During this series, Bumrah also became the third bowler among SENA countries to take the maximum number of 5 wicket hauls as an Asian player. He has done this feat 9 times in SENA country. Now only Muttiah Muralitharan and Wasim Akram are ahead of him in this list. Muttiah Muralitharan had taken 5 wicket hauls 10 times and Wasim Akram 11 times in SENA countries. This means that this tour was good for Bumrah in many ways, although he could not bowl in the last innings of the last Test due to injury.
