Simon Katich, former Australian star took a brutal dig at India captain Rohit Sharma during the recently concluded fifth Test in Sydney.

Despite speculation about Rohit's future in the Test side, where reports suggested he may no longer be in the selectors' plans, Rohit confidently stated that he is "going nowhere."

He had opted out of the crucial series-deciding Test in Sydney, which India lost by six wickets, sealing a 1-3 series defeat. Katich, however, humorously suggested that Rohit has a promising career ahead in stand-up comedy, poking fun at the 37-year-old's statements.

"Well, if you look at the numbers, they are damning. We saw it in this Test. It was very selfless of him to opt out of the Test. I saw in that interview, very well-spoken. There's no doubt he has a future after he is done playing cricket in stand-up comedy because his humor was very good," Katich said on Star Sports.

As India's next challenge is the tour of England in June, Simon Katich cautioned Rohit Sharma that the series could prove to be "tough" for a "37-year-old."

"Only he knows whether he has the hunger and drive at 37 to go again. England is not going to be an easy series.

England are on their way up. They have some good young quicks coming through. Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse are doing well," Katich remarked.

Rohit registered just 31 runs from five innings during India's recent tour of Australia before he "stood down" for the final Sydney Test. In his seven Tests in England, the 37-year-old has accumulated 524 runs at an average of 40.30, which includes one century and two fifties.

While the five-match series in England is still several months away, Rohit's next major challenge will be the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. Before that, he is set to face England's fast bowlers in a three-match ODI series at home, starting February 6.
