Mumbai: It was a night to forget for Hardik Pandya and the Mumbai Indians as they were beaten by 20 runs at the Wankhede stadium on Sunday night by the Chennai Super Kings. Hardik was expensive with the ball and could not live upto the billing with the bat and hence he faced the heat from all quarters. Former India cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan were distraught with Hardik’s performance. Gavaskar went on to label Hardik’s captaincy and bowling as ‘ordinary’.
“”Oh, absolutely ordinary bowling, ordinary captaincy. They should have been restricted despite the fact that Ruturaj Gaikwad had batted so well along with Shivam Dube. I do believe that they should have been restricted to 185-190,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports during the innings break.
Former India allrounder Irfan reckoned not giving the ball to Akash Madhwal for the final over was the wrong call.
“Hardik Pandya bowling the last over showed the lack of faith on Akash madhwal’s bowling and his own lack of skill as a death over bowler,” Irfan tweeted.
Following the loss, MI find themselves in the eighth spot in the points table, while CSK have strengthened their grip on the third spot.
