Ambati Rayudu has started a new debate on the wicket-keeper’s slot for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He feels Dinesh Karthik should be India’s number one keeper and not Rishabh Pant. He commented after DK scored 83 runs off 39 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Karthik hit 7 sixes and 4 fours but RCB lost the game by 25 runs.
Rayudu feels India need a finisher and there is no one who is better than Karthik. He said Dinesh is batting in the lower order and is regularly coming up with impressive scores.
“Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are playing in the top order. It is only Dinesh Karthik, who is batting in the lower order. It is not easy to score runs in the death overs but DK has done it successfully.
“The pitches in the West Indies and USA will be slow in nature and India need DK to counter attack. He still has in him to play for India. I feel he should be there in the squad,” Ambati Rayudu said.
However, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan was not satisfied with Rayudu’s logic and backed Pant for the role.
“India shouldn’t look back. Rishabh Pant is in good form and he is the present and future of the Indian cricket. Dinesh Karthik has got enough chances but he failed to win matches for the country. It will be disappointing if DK gets a chane in place of Pant,” Irfan Pathan said.
