Glenn Maxwell has been one of the biggest flops in the Indian Premier League 2024, and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru dropped him from the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has registered three ducks in IPL 2024 and looked helpless against bowlers.
The rival teams have quickly undone Maxwell, who was in form ahead of the 17th season. His failure with the bat impacted RCB, and the team lost six out of seven games.
Former India player Ambati Rayudu was not satisfied with the decision, mainly when Sunrisers Hyderabad had given a target of 288.
“RCB conceded the highest team total in the history of the Indian Premier League. They needed Glenn Maxwell, who could have helped the team chase down the record total. However, he was dropped. They should have retained him for the game against SRH, as they persisted with him for six games despite failing miserably. There was no harm in trying him for one more game,” Ambati Rayudu said.
RCB finished 262/7 in 20 overs and lost the contest by 25 runs. Dinesh Karthik was the top scorer with 83 runs coming from just 35 balls, packed with seven sixes and five fours.
Captain Faf du Plessis scored 62 off 26, including 7 fours and 4 sixes. Virat Kohli scored 42 off 20 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes.
Travis Head’s fourth-fastest IPL hundred and Heinrich Klaasen’s explosive fifty-plus score took the visitors to 287/3.
