In a high-scoring match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) displayed a stunning exhibition of modern T20 batting to defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 25 runs. RCB won the toss and chose to bowl first, with Siraj being dropped and Maxwell sidelined due to injury.
SRH set a new IPL record by amassing 287/3, propelled mainly by Travis Head’s magnificent century. Head, in exceptional form, smashed 102 runs off just 41 balls, including eight sixes. Heinrich Klaasen’s rapid 67 off 31 deliveries added to SRH’s onslaught, resulting in a record 22 sixes in their innings.
RCB began their chase strongly, with Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis aggressively scoring, but they struggled to maintain the required run rate. Dinesh Karthik’s explosive 83 off 35 balls and du Plessis’ 62 kept RCB in contention, but they fell short, finishing on 262/7.
Pat Cummins was outstanding for SRH, taking 3 key wickets for 43 runs. Despite RCB’s defeat, Karthik’s innings enthralled the crowd, adding seven sixes to the excitement. His quickfire 83 off 35 balls gave RCB a glimmer of hope but was ultimately not enough to secure victory.
Purple Cap Table after RCB vs SRH Clash
Rajasthan leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is at the top of the Purple Cap table with 11 wickets in 6 matches. However, after SRH’s victory over RCB in yesterday’s encounter, the points table saw one big change in the top 5. The Sunrisers skipper jumped to fourth place after picking 3/43 in a high-scoring game.
Cummins’ crafty bowling was displayed as he bowled cutters and bouncers on the Chinnaswamy track. He used his height well, hitting hard lengths with an occasional yorker. He took the wickets of Faf Du Plessis, Saurav Chauhan, and Mahipal Lomror. He now has 9 wickets in 6 games at an impressive economy of 7.87. Bumrah and Mustafizur Rahman are above him in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.
