Bengaluru: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru may have lost the IPL match at M. Chinnaswamy on Monday against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, but veteran Dinesh Karthik made a real statement with the bat ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 selection. Karthik hit a breathtaking 83 off 35 balls to light up Chinnaswamy and keep the hopes alive of an improbable win.

Following the loss, RCB coach Andy Flower had words of motivation for the players as he lauded them for putting up a fight. During his speech, he also asked Karthik hilariously about a spot in the T20 WC squad. Here is the RCB dressing-room clip that is now going viral:

Flower said: “Dinesh Karthik, You’re making a push for the T20 World Cup team as well. Well done mate you’re only getting better”.

Karthik’s knock was laced with seven sixes and five fours and he kept the hopes alive till almost the final over in the mammoth chase. He hit sixes to all parts of the ground while the fans kept chanting, ‘DK-DK’.

The wicketkeeper’s race already has a number of contenders in Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Dhruv Jurel, Sanju Samson and KL Rahul.

In seven IPL matches this season, Karthik has amassed 156 runs at a staggering strike-rate of 194. He comes in late in the innings.
