Delhi: The Australian team has suffered an embarrassing defeat before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Sri Lanka beat the Kangaroos badly in the second ODI played in Colombo. Batting first, Sri Lanka set a challenging target of 282 runs, which proved to be a mountain for the Australian team. The entire team was reduced to just 107 runs and Sri Lanka won by a big margin of 174 runs. This is Australia's biggest defeat against any Asian team.

With this defeat, the Kangaroo team had to face a 2–0 clean sweep.

For the first time after 43 years, Sri Lanka has completely eliminated Australia in ODIs. Earlier in 1982, the Sri Lankan team did this feat.

Australia's batting failed badly for the second consecutive time. In the first ODI too, the team could not chase the target of 215 runs and was piled on only 165 runs. At the same time, chasing 282 runs in the second match, the team collapsed from the beginning. Within just 7 overs, 3 wickets of the top order had fallen, due to which the team came under pressure.

Captain Steve Smith and Josh English tried to handle the innings by parting 46 runs, but in the 15th over, English was also out on a score of 79.

After this, there was a wicket -off and Aaron Hardy, Glenn Maxwell and Smith also started walking in the next three overs. On seeing this, the team had fallen by 7 wickets by 83 runs and by reaching the score of 107 runs, the whole team collapsed.
