Delhi: Former England batsman Mark Bachar believes that the team headed by Jose Butler does not have enough experience to play in the 50 -over format, so that he cannot be considered as a strong contender to win the ICC Champions Trophy starting on February 19. Since the 2023 ODI World Cup, England have won only four ODIs out of 14 and recently faced a 3–0 defeat against India, which was Brendon McCullum's first series as a white-ball coach.

In the Champions Trophy, England will face Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa in the league stage – all three teams have defeated England during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Talking on Wisden Cricket Weekly Podcast, Bachar said, “The first idea in my mind during the first two ODIs came that how inexperienced our cricket is in the 50 -over format. The reason for this is that we do not play enough ODI matches. To maintain the speed and flow of the game, there is a need to play continuously, and we are behind in it. ”

He further said, “In the 50 -over format, the speed should be controlled according to the time.

This is not just a game of playing fast, but it is necessary to play wisely. When to be aggressive and when to play carefully, this understanding comes only from playing more ODI matches. ”
