The fielding standards haven’t been top-notch for years in the Indian Premier League. Players have dropped catches and conceded boundaries on misfields. In IPL 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders have dropped 11 catches, which shows the level of their fielding.
In the game against Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens, Varun Chakaravarthy dropped a straightforward catch of Sanju Samson. Mitchell Starc bowled a perfect delivery to Rajasthan’s skipper, who edged it, but Varun let the team down.
The moment this incident happened, Gautam Gambhir, the mentor of KKR, was shown on the giant screen. He looked pissed off with the effort. Former India player Ambati Rayudu warned the KKR cricketers of serious consequences if they drop another catch in the game.
“KKR have dropped eleven catches, which is a worrying sign. Their batting and bowling have been phenomenal, and that’s why this area hasn’t been talked about. Gambhir is not looking happy, Varun should have taken that catch. If KKR drop another catch, Gambhir will give them dressing down after the match,” Ambati Rayudu said.
Samson couldn’t take advantage of the lifeline as Harshit Rana dismissed him on an individual score of 12 runs.
Earlier, Sunil Narine’s 109 runs took the hosts’ score to 223/6 in 20 overs. He struck 13 fours and 6 sixes in his terrific knock.
