Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ mentor, shares a friendly bond with Sunil Narine. The West Indies star, who struggled in the past few seasons, returned to his best form after Gambhir joined the team for IPL 2024. He has become one of the most consistent openers in the 17th season of the tournament.

Narine is again enjoying his batting, and the veteran smacks his maiden IPL hundred against the Rajasthan Royals. Gambhir lauded the right-handed. Sunil was put under pressure by the RR bowlers. He was mistiming the ball at the start of his innings but got his rhythm back after a while. There was no looking back after he got the feel of the wicket and went on to amass 109 runs off 66 balls, including 13 fours and six sixes.

Gambhir met Narine during the strategic time-out and hugged him for his century. The legendary cricketer then took to X to hail the player.

“There was, there is, there will be…only one,” he wrote.

Former India players Ambati Rayudu, Varun Aaron, and Harbhajan Singh credited Gambhir for Narine’s success in the ongoing season.

However, the result didn’t favor the Kolkata Knight Riders. Jos Buttler’s second hundred of IPL 2024 led RR to a win by two wickets. Playing as an impact player, Buttler showed his range to close the match in favor of the visitors at the Eden Gardens.

Jos has amassed seven hundred hundred in the Indian Premier League, and he needs one century to equal Virat Kohli’s record of eight tons.
