The selection committee is keeping an eye on the performance of Indian cricketers in IPL 2024 as the squad for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup will be selected. The Indian team for the Twenty20 World Cup will be selected on the basis of its performance in IPL 2024. Last week, an important meeting of BCCI was held in Mumbai in which Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid and selection committee head Ajit Agarkar discussed many important issues. There were reports that Virat Kohli is seeking clarification from the board regarding his place in the World Cup team and according to media reports, if Kohli plays in Team India, he will have to open with Rohit.

Kohli has not played for India in the Twenty20 format since the 2022 Twenty20 World Cup. But, after the ODI World Cup, he made a comeback in the Twenty20 series against Afghanistan. Then he was playing at number three and Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal were the openers. But, now the pair of Virat-Rohit will once again be seen in the opener.

In the meeting, the officers said that they cannot drop Virat from Team India under any circumstances and he can open with Rohit.

Kohli is the top scorer in IPL 2024 with 361 runs in 7 matches. If Virat Kohli opens with Rohit in the Twenty20 World Cup, then one of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill will be selected at number three. Looking at the current form in IPL, the chances of Shubman getting a chance are high. A successful flop may be benched.
