The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) imposed a hefty fine on all-rounder Aamir Jamal for displaying a political slogan on his hat during the team’s three-match home Test series against England last year. Jamal was fined approximately PKR 1.4 million (around £4,35,820) by the board for writing the number ‘804’ on his hat.

The number ‘804’ is believed to be the prison identification number of former Pakistan captain and Prime Minister, Imran Khan. The 72-year-old Khan was sentenced to 14 years in prison and has been incarcerated at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since August 2023.

As reported by Samaa TV journalist Qadir Khawaja, the PCB penalised Jamal for making a political reference. Other players also faced fines for disciplinary issues, with the total amount reaching PKR 3.3 million. Salman Ali Agha, Saim Ayub, and Abdullah Shafique were fined PKR 500,000 each for failing to return to the team hotel on time during their tour of Australia in November of last year.

Additionally, a fine of $200 was imposed on Sufyan Muqeem, Usman Khan, and Abbas Afridi during the South Africa tour. However, this amount was refunded after the Pakistani team whitewashed South Africa 3-0 in the ODI series.

Jamal’s most recent international appearance came in the two-match Test series against South Africa earlier this year. The Proteas won the series 2-0, with Jamal taking two wickets across three innings and scoring 95 runs from four innings.

Aamir Jamal was notably overlooked by the Pakistani selectors for the recently concluded 2025 Champions Trophy. He shared his disappointment about the decision by posting a cryptic message on his Instagram story.
