India captain Rohit Sharma said he could easily convince Dinesh Karthik to play for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 while talking about MS Dhoni coming out of retirement to participate in the tournament. The IPL 2024 is being taken as a platform for auditioning for the World Cup, which will be played in the USA and West Indies.
While speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Rohit lauded Dhoni and DK for their performance in IPL 2024. Rohit jokingly said that it would be difficult to convince Dhoni to take the wicket-keeper’s slot, adding that MSD’s knock against Mumbai Indians helped the defending champions win the game by 20 runs.
‘I am impressed with Dinesh Karthik. He has been batting well. Dhoni made a huge impact in just 4 balls. That was a difference between Mumbai and Chennai in the end,” Rohit said.
Dhoni hit three consecutive sixes off Hardik Pandya’s bowling and remained unbeaten at 20 off just four balls. Rohit also slammed a hundred in that match, but it went in vain.
‘It will be hard to convince MS Dhoni to come out of retirement and play for India in the World Cup in the USA. He is sick and tired. He is coming to the US to do something else. He will play golf there. DK can be convinced easily,’ Rohit added.
Karthik struck 83 runs from 35 balls while chasing 288 against SRH.
