Delhi Capitals has named Faf du Plessis as the vice captain for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. The right handed batter Delhi Capitals picked up Faf in the mega auction after he was released by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Axar Patel was named as the Delhi Capitals captain on Friday replacing the wk-batter Rishabh Pant who left for Lucknow Super Giants.

Faf du Plessis was the captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru till the end of 2024 and was released by the franchise ahead of the mega auction.

He joined Delhi Capitals for a base price of INR 2 crore and was chosed ahead of KL Rahul who has captaincy experience in the IPL.

Du Plessis became part of the IPL om 2012 after Chennai Super Kings bought him. He was part of the team till 2015 season and moved to Rising Pune Supergiants for two seasons when CSK were banned from the IPL and went back to CSK staying there till 2021.

He joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 2022 auction and with Virat Kohli stepped down as the captain, he led the side for three seasons.

During his captaincy stint, RCB reached playoffs twice and they are yet to win their maiden IPL trophy.

Faf Du Plessis has 4571 runs from 145 matches at an average of 35.99 and a strike rate of 136.37. He remains active in the franchise cricket and played for Joburg Super Kings earlier this year.

Meanwhile Harry Brook who witdrawn from the tournament due to personal reasons has been banned for two years. The franchise might by baffled with selection headaches to find a replacement for Harry Brook.

Delhi Capitals will play their first match of the IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.
