With the IPL 2025 season fast approaching, teams and players have been putting in the hard work to prepare for what promises to be an intense tournament. As players focus on refining their skills and securing their spots in the starting XI, the bowlers of Sunrisers Hyderabad have faced a tough challenge in the practice nets, with Abhishek Sharma showing no mercy.
A video shared on SRH’s social media platforms shows the Indian opener smashing several hard-hit sixes, some of which caused more damage than expected. One such shot resulted in the glass pane of a fire extinguisher box shattering.
In the video, when asked, “What have you broken?” Abhishek replied, “Mostly my bats. But I did hear the sound of glass breaking over there, just past the boundary.”
The video shows Abhishek executing a typical long-handle drive over long-on, which sailed beyond the boundary and broke the glass window. Follow-up images reveal how the towering southpaw had effortlessly knocked out one of the glass panes.
Sharma has established himself as one of the most dangerous hitters in the IPL.
He had a stellar season in 2024, where his opening partnership with Travis Head played a major role in the team’s record-breaking run to the final. During this campaign, Abhishek hit three of the four highest scores in the tournament’s history, largely due to his ability to strike from the first ball during the powerplay.Now a regular member of India’s T20I squad with multiple international centuries to his name, Abhishek will look to guide an equally strong SRH side back to the finals, with the Orange Army considered one of the pre-tournament favourites.
In 2024, Abhishek scored 484 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 204, second only to Jake Fraser-McGurk in that department. He also smashed 42 sixes, becoming the first Indian player to hit 40 or more maximums in a single IPL season, leading the sixes chart.
Sharma and SRH’s campaign will kick off with an afternoon match at the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday.
