Lucknow: Veteran batsman and former captain of Mumbai Indians (MI) Rohit Sharma will create history as soon as he takes the field against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mullanpur.

He will achieve the record which only former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has achieved before him. After Rohit Dhoni, he will become the second player in IPL history to do so. So even veteran players like Virat Kohli have not been able to make this record in their name yet.

Rohit is among those players of IPL, who have been playing since its initial edition i.e. 2008. Now he can make another record in his name in this series. Let us tell you that the 33rd match of IPL 2024 will be played against Punjab on 18 April in Mullanpur. Rohit is going to achieve a special achievement as soon as he enters the field in this match. Actually, this will be the 250th match of his IPL career and before him, Dhoni is the only player who has played 250 matches in the history of IPL.

Dhoni has played a total of 256 matches in the history of this tournament so far and now Rohit is also going to be included in this list. So Virat is also not in this list and he has played 244 matches so far. That means they are still 6 matches away and Kohli can also join this list this season.

If we talk about Rohit's IPL career, he has played a total of 249 matches so far, in which the veteran player has scored 6472 runs at an average of 30.1 and strike rate of 131.22.

During this period, he has scored 2 centuries and 42 half-centuries. So the best score there has been 109 runs.

The 36-year-old has shown good form with his bat this season. He was removed from the captaincy even before the start of the season and star all-rounder Hardik Pandya was given the captaincy in his place.
