Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop has hailed Jasprit Bumrah for his three-wicket haul against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League 2024. Bumrah was named the Player of the Match for his match-winning performance. The visitors defeated the Sam Curran-led team by 9 runs to register their third win.
With 13 wickets in 7 games, Bumrah has reclaimed the Purple Cap from Yuzvendra Chahal. He started the damage in the powerplay overs, with Rilee Rossouw failing to read his toe-crushing Yorker. Curran was Bumrah’s second scalp.
When Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma were blazing all guns, Hardik Pandya brought back his premier fast bowler to break the partnership. Shashank couldn’t judge Bumrah’s slower delivery and ended up hitting the ball high in the air and Tilak Varma took a good catch.
Although Ashutosh continued to hit fours and sixes, he didn’t get support from the other end. He was dismissed by Gerald Coetzee.
Bishop wants Bumrah to give lectures to the young pacers.
“If I could anoint Jasprit Bumrah with a fast bowling PHD, I would. He is a terrific communicator, Knowledgable & articulate. I’d then have him hold bowling lectures to young for aspiring seam bowlers across the country at all levels. I wouldn’t wait until he retired. #professor,” he wrote on X.
Bumrah has already taken a five-wicket haul in the 17th season. He registered the record against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium. Jasprit is the only in form MI bowler, while others are leaking runs without taking wickets.
