New Delhi: During an IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, Mumbai's new player, Satyanarayana Raju, bowled an unusually slow delivery, surprising Gujarat's Jos Buttler.
The 25-year-old Andhra Pradesh bowler used a back-of-the-hand delivery in the 13th over, resulting in one of the slowest balls ever seen in the IPL.
All but one of the deliveries in the over were recorded at similar speeds. Jos Buttler took considerable time to adjust his stance before powerfully hitting a boundary. A slower, intended short ball, gave Buttler ample time to execute a pull shot, resulting in another boundary.
Social media users likened the delivery's speed to some of Dwayne Bravo's slower deliveries.
Former West Indies all-rounder Bravo frequently employed slower balls as a key part of his bowling strategy.
On his IPL debut on March 23rd, Andhra Pradesh pacer Satyanarayan Raju bowled a single over against Chennai Super Kings, conceding 13 runs. Despite this, he remained in the team.
Before a match in Gujarat, Rohit Sharma offered words of encouragement to a 25-year-old bowler. This occurred prior to the toss, which Hardik Pandya won and chose to bowl first.
Satyanarayana Raju's bowling figures were 13 runs in his opening over and a further 19 runs in his final spell. Rutherford successfully hit several of Raju's slower deliveries for sixes.
In the final over, the bowler successfully defended Mumbai's score, dismissing Rashid Khan despite conceding a six earlier in the over. His final figures were 1 wicket for 40 runs from 3 overs.
Mumbai Indians released Vignesh Puthur, a leg-spinner from Kerala, despite his three-wicket debut performance in the IPL. His absence from a subsequent match was attributed to an injury.
