MS Dhoni is the most respected Indian cricketer, and the rival players in IPL 2024 are making sure the veteran is treated uniquely. His presence in the CSK camp is turning away venues into home matches. The fans are coming in large numbers to the stadiums to watch the 42-year-old, and they don’t mind if their home team loses a game.
During the Lucknow Super Giants vs Chennai Super Kings IPL 2024 match at the Ekana Stadium, KL Rahul took off his cap before shaking hands with MS Dhoni as a mark of respect for one of the legends of the game.
KL put his cap back on before shaking hands with others, including CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Rahul, who was named the Player of the Match for his 82 off 53 balls, was good behind the stumps as well. LSG won the game by 8 wickets while chasing 177 at home.
“I would have been happy with 160 but MS Dhoni walks in and put the bowlers under pressure. The crowd went loud to support the hero. Dhoni hit sixes to take the team’s total above my expectations,” Rahul said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
CSK were 141 for 6 when Dhoni came out to bat with 13 balls remaining. He knew CSK needed quick runs and went on a rampage. He smashed three fours and two sixes, scoring 28 runs at a strike rate of 311.
However, it was not enough as Rahul and Quinton de Kock added 134 runs for the opening wicket to take their team home.
