Under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata Knight Riders have adopted a fresh approach to cricket that reflects in their gameplay, marking a notable shift in the team’s dynamics. Gambhir emphasizes results over process, underscoring the importance of working diligently to achieve success and aligning with fans’ desire to see KKR victories.
In a candid podcast discussion, Gambhir openly acknowledged the importance of results, a sentiment reflected in KKR’s strong season performance so far. With 4 wins in 6 matches and only 2 losses, Gambhir’s words ring true as his team continues its impressive run on the field.
“I am quite transparent that results matter to me. I don’t believe in this notion of ‘Process’ or ‘Do the process right, and the results will take care of themselves’. For me, results are important, because people come to see KKR win.” stated Gambhir.
He was indirectly taking a dig at MS Dhoni, who has always talked about the importance of process. “Take care of the process and the results will follow,” Dhoni had said numerous times.
Gambhir also praised KKR’s fans, calling them as one of the most loyal supporters in the country. Despite the team’s mediocre performances, he commended the fans for their enduring passion.
“The Kolkata Knight Riders have the most loyal fanbase in the country. Despite the team’s struggles in their first three seasons, fans passionately stuck with them through thick and thin. This devotion demonstrates the remarkable loyalty of KKR supporters,” he added.
Gambhir, a two-time IPL champion as captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, became the team’s mentor ahead of the 17th season. His deep affection for the Kolkata franchise has been apparent not only in his words, but also in memorable moments like when he sprinted onto the field to embrace Sunil Narine after the southpaw smashed his first IPL hundred against the Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens.
KKR currently sit in second place in the standings as they aim for a playoff spot after missing out the past two seasons. They suffered a narrow 2-wicket loss against RR in a thrilling match. Next, they will host RCB, one of their favored opponents, in an exciting match at Eden Gardens Stadium on April 21.
