Former India cricketer Ravi Shastri has given a piece of advice to 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi , who made his IPL debut for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) recently.

Suryavanshi started his IPL career with a six, announcing his arrival to the world in style while becoming the youngest debutant in IPL history.

However, playing the young batter did not bring any luck to the Royals as they have now lost five consecutive matches in the tournament. Their failure to chase the targets from commanding positions has brought them down to the ninth position on the points table.

In nine games, the Rajasthan-based franchise has won just two with multiple tight games going against them.

Shastri opened up on the failures of the team and how the young Suryavanshi should learn from it.

"He is very young, and it's essential for him to fall and understand how to get up on his own. He is an explosive batter and has a great future if he carries the same confidence throughout his career. I think the first shot he played, that would have taken everyone's breath away. But, he's young, so I would say just let him play a bit because it's at that age, there's bound to be failure as well.

It's how he handles failure," said Shastri on ICC Review.

The former cricketer said that the upcoming matches will be challenging for the newcomer as bowlers will try different things to dismiss him. Suryavanshi has so far scored 50 runs in two games at an average of 25.

"People will come up with new things. There'll be lots of short stuff thrown at him. When you tonk someone's first ball for six, then you show no mercy. Then you don't care whether he's 14 or 12 years old or 20 years old," added Shastri.
