Gujarat Titans fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has explained the impact that saliva has been able to create in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.
GT pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna have performed well in IPL 2025 so far. After playing 8 games each, both pacers are in the top 10 of the Purple Cap list and are getting better with each game.
Prasidh has been the better performer for GT and has picked up 16 wickets from 8 games. The fast bowler is only 3 wickets away from his all-time best performance in the IPL, which came in the 2022 season. Prasidh credited the impact to the use of saliva on the ball.
The pacer said that the use of saliva has a chain reaction in the final overs of the match, which is helping the pacers to be more effective in this season of the tournament. The IPL 2025 has seen fewer numbers of exorbitant totals in the tournament. While the 2024 edition saw 21 200+ totals, the 2025 edition has only seen 9 so far. Prasidh said that with the use of saliva, the ball is tearing up more, which is putting the batters in trouble.
"It has played a bit of a part because if you look at what the ball does with the saliva on it, even if it means that one out of the 120 balls tears in a little more, that means you get a wicket that's an extra dot ball," Prasidh Krishna replied to India Today's question in the JioStar press room.
"And if that happens at a crucial stage when the right batsman gets out, that means you slow down the run rate and you get the momentum back. So, it has a chain reaction kind of a thing. And it definitely helped the bowlers," Prasidh explained.Courtesy: AP
ON LEARNING FROM ASHISH NEHRA
The fast bowler credited Ashish Nehra for his revival in the Indian Premier League as well. Prasidh revealed that he put in a lot of work with Ashish Nehra and worked hard on understanding the conditions and the nature of the pitch.
"I was very clear about what I wanted to work on, made sure I put in the hours, and had the right conversations with Ashish Nehra. One thing that I've learned from him is about reading the conditions, the pitch, making sure you make the right decisions when you're at the top of the mark," he concluded.
GT take on RR in their 9th match of the season.
They are currently placed in the 2nd spot in the IPL league table.
