Jos Buttler has achieved another remarkable milestone in his illustrious T20 career, becoming the first England batter to complete 4,000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He reached this landmark in Match 51 of the IPL 2025 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Ahmedabad, adding another feather to his cap after crossing 12,500 T20 runs earlier this season.
Buttler now stands as the third-fastest batter (in terms of balls faced) to reach the 4,000 IPL runs milestone, trailing only two legends of the game-Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. The fastest batters to 4,000 IPL runs (by balls faced) are as follows:
Chris Gayle - 2658 balls
AB de Villiers - 2658 balls
Jos Buttler - 2677 balls
Suryakumar Yadav - 2714 balls
Buttler entered the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad needing just 12 runs to achieve the milestone. Having done so in his 117th IPL match, Buttler has now accumulated over 4,000 runs from 116 innings, with an average above 40 and a strike rate close to 150. His IPL career also boasts 7 centuries and 23 fifties.
Buttler's IPL journey began with the Mumbai Indians, where he played 24 matches and scored 527 runs at an average of 25.09.
Despite a relatively low average, his strike rate of over 145 showcased his aggressive approach to the game. However, it was his move to Rajasthan Royals that saw him truly thrive. In 83 matches for RR, Buttler scored an impressive 3,055 runs at an average of 41.84. He struck 18 fifties and 7 centuries, with a remarkable strike rate of 147.79, firmly establishing himself as one of the league's most explosive batters.
After Rajasthan Royals released him last year, Gujarat Titans secured his services in the auction.
Playing for Gujarat Titans, Buttler has continued his exceptional form, amassing over 418 runs in IPL 2025.
