Team India's ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah will not be given any leadership role in the upcoming Test series against England. Notably, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) will assign the responsibility to someone who will be available for all the matches.

In Bumrah's case, he won't play in all the matches, which is why the Board does not want to hand him any responsibility.

Bumrah is likely to miss a few games in England as part of his workload management. During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024, the pacer sustained a back injury and had to miss the final innings of the fifth Test match.

Apart from that, he also missed the first few games for MI in the ongoing IPL 2025. Hence, to keep him injury-free and give him sufficient time to rest, the management is unlikely to play him in all the matches.

After the IPL, India will travel to England to play a five-match series starting in June. This series will mark the beginning of the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, so both teams will be extremely focused on winning it and making a strong start to the cycle.

"We want a player who will be available for all five Test matches and he should be given the vice-captain's role.

Bumrah won't be playing all five matches, so we don't want to appoint different deputies for different games. It will be better that the captain and vice-captain are fixed and play all five Tests," said a BCCI source as quoted by the Indian Express.

Gill, Pant in contention; Jaiswal could be groomed for future leadership

There are very limited options for the management as of now, since there are just two players - Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant - who fit the category to be vice-captain. However, they can also groom Yashasvi Jaiswal from now on, which could help them in the future.

It will be interesting to see who the Board chooses as the team's vice-captain.
